ABOUT ME
My name is Abhijna, and I am an artist based in San Francisco. My work engages with themes of feminism, womanhood, and mythology. While painting is my primary medium, I also incorporate fiber art and photography to challenge and explore the concept of femininity globally. My art is enriched by elements of Indian and Persian narratives.
I honed my craft at the Art Institute of Chicago as an undergraduate on a scholarship and furthered my education at the Royal College of Art in London, broadening my artistic viewpoint. I began my exhibition journey at 16 in Hyderabad’s Impact fundraiser, where my talent was recognized with the Martin Luther King prize for my mural in Chicago.
My art has been showcased in various prestigious spaces, including the Alliance Francaise in Hyderabad, Sullivan Galleries in Chicago, and other galleries in New York and London. In 2022, I published “The Feminine,” a book presenting a series of performances captured in photographs that dialogue with femininity in Indian society.
I now reside and work as a full-time artist in California’s Bay Area.

"The artist's choice to paint the body, impose a narrative that explores the feminine in man, woman, plant, and animal, to commend the essence of the female, her myriad emotions, sensations and passions are more of a self-search" - Avani Rao Gandra Artist/Curator/Writer
"Felt so wonderful to meet Abhijna and am so lucky to get her book. While reading it, her paintings make deep sense and few lines are so intense that I can relate to myself." - Sirisha Mulupuru Entrepreneur/Influencer

"Abhijna picked the feminine quality as a metaphor in her works to express herself. The intermingled influences of the contemporary culture from her experiences in the US, and the culture from back home where she was raised." -Lakshmi Reddy Artist/Professor
